Component Preforming & Preparation

In many of our centers we have developed areas dedicated to client component preforming activities to prep components for subsequent manufacturing processes such as SMT and THT. This activity has come about as a result of many years working with our client base and recognizing the challenges they encounter during the manufacturing process.

This component preforming and prep comes in many guises from simple lead cropping and forming, automated soldering, through more complex pre-forming, bandoliering, repackaging and kitting depending on your requirements.

MANUFACTURER SERVICES PRE-FORMING

The advantage of being located in close proximity to our client base allows us to offer just-in-time component configuration and delivery services such as:

  • Lead cropping and forming
  • Automatic component assembly soldering
  • Kitting
  • Polarity testing prior to lead forming
  • Bowl-fed tape & reeling

Tape & Reeling Radial Components

The product arrives to us in bulk. We use a bowl feeder for component prep. A polarity test is conducted on the radial LEDs. All components are arranged with the same polarity and then bandoliered (put onto tape) ready for use in the manufacturing process. Manual handling is eliminated, increasing speed and accuracy, and reducing points of failure.

Lead Cropping

This video shows a semiautomatic machine cropping the leads, or pins, on a radial component, we can also carry this out in fully automatic mode whereby the components, in this case electrolytic capacitors are fed into the cropping machine using our bowl feeder. This custom cropping to any length and shape prepares the components for through-hole applications (THT).

Cropping and Forming Axial Components

Our automatic machines crop the axial resistors and bend into any shape as per the manufacturer’s specifications.

Automatic Cropping & Forming Radial Components

We use a bowl feeder to align the LEDs, test for polarity, automatically correct the LED polarity and then crop and/or form according to the manufacturer’s specification.
